Tranquility is an advanced snare drum solo with track accompaniment, meant to portray the movement of thought through ones own mind as you meditate, and eventually achieve clarity.

“Tranquility is a piece for marching snare drum and track which was premiered by the composer Mitchell Barnard (b. 1989) at the 2018 Utah PAS Day of Percussion. Taking 3rd prize in the College Snare Drum Competition, the piece features an elusive soundscape which immerses the listener into meditative sounds of nature and antiphonal effects. The Chinese war drum beats a mantra-like mixed meter groove which the performer plays complex phrasing and polyrhythmic ideas around. Instruments from various cultures such as the tabla and riq are introduce to form new textures and characters. The melodic use of the marching snare drum transcends its typical musical applications and creates interplay between the player and the elaborate electronic track.”  - Nick Jackson
